Two taxis have collided head on with one another, leaving 17 people injured.

Paramedics describe the area where the accident took place on the M1 at Marion Hill to be quite a dark stretch of road, and this may have played a part in the cause of the collision.

When they arrived on scene, the two vehicles had already been pulled apart by a tow truck, and one of the drivers was trapped in his seat as a result of the vehicles metal bending around him following the impact. He was in a stable condition, but he would need to be cut from the wreckage and approximately 20 minutes later he was freed.

All seventeen patients were treated on scene for minor to moderate injuries and they were then transported by the various ambulances to St. Mary’s and RK Khans hospital.
