4year old pedestrian airlifted from Franschhoek

A four year old girl sustained serious injuries this afternoon after being struck by a bakkie while attempting to cross the R45 in Franschhoek.

The events leading up to the incident is unclear, but the girl had allegedly ran into the street when she was struck by a ISUZU bakkie. The girl was knocked to the ground and was found laying in the road. Various ambulance services including ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the young girl to be in a serious condition as she had sustained a head injury as well as suspected back and neck injuries.

On scene paramedics promptly dispatched the AER24 helicopter to the scene before transporting the patient to an open field where the helicopter could land. The patient then received further treatment before being airlifted to the Red Cross children’s hospital for further care.

Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the incident further.
