The bad weather conditions across the country has left chaos and destruction in its wake the last few weeks, but this afternoon, a storm in Bloemfontein is believed to have been the cause of a fatal accident that took place.

18 construction workers were traveling in a 10 ton truck along Waverley street, when a large tree fell onto the back of the truck where most of the occupants had been sitting just as they were passing near Milner street. The force of the tree contributed to ejecting a number of the men from the back of the truck, and it ended up critically injuring one man.

Despite efforts by paramedics on scene, the man’s condition deteriorated while they were trying desperately to stabilize him, but sadly there was no improvement and he died on scene. Three of the other men suffered moderate injuries, and were in a stable condition. The remaining 14 men who had also been traveling in the truck, had suffered minor injuries and all 17 patients were taken to hospitals in the area by the various ambulances that had attended the scene.
