One truck driver has sustained serious injuries this morning following a three truck pileup on the N1 highway approximately 50 kilometers outside of Bloemfontein.
The events leading up to the collision is unclear, but a truck had collided into the rear of another truck before being rear ended by a third truck. The collision caused the driver of the centre truck to be ejected from the drivers cab and onto the road.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the driver in severe pain. The man had sustained severe injuries to both his legs in the form of multiple broken bones as well as suspected back and neck injuries. Paramedics treated the patient at the scene before rapidly transporting him to a nearby medical facility for further medical attention.
Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
