Head-on collision on Witkoppen Road

On 1 October 2012, at approximately 9:45am, the driver of a Toyota RunX was suspected to have lost consciousness for a moment, due to reasons unknown at the time of the incident, which resulted in a head on collision with a Toyota Venture taxi on Witkoppen road in Fourways.

The driver of the RunX sustained serious injuries to her head, chest, pelvis and both legs. The female patient was treated and stabilized by Emer-G-Med paramedics in her vehicle. The fire department was called out to use the Jaws-of-Life so that paramedics could remove the patient without the risk of furthering any injuries. Once the female patient was removed she was rapidly transported to hospital by Emer-G-Med ambulance.

The driver and 5 passengers of the taxi were also injured, with one of the passengers in the taxi sustaining critical injuries while the rest of the occupants of the taxi sustained moderate injuries. The passenger from the taxi was also treated and stabilized by Emer-G-Med paramedics and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police were on scene and are now investigating further.
