Motorcyclist In Critical Condition In Pietermaritzburg

A motorcyclist is in a critical condition after colliding with a Bakkie on Alexander Road in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the motor bike in the road completely in half. The Bakkie was near to the bike with extensive damage to the front of it. The motorcyclist was found behind the vehicle and in a critical condition.

The paramedics assessed the patient and found he had a suspected neck and back injury, suspected broken bones and internal injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient before being transportedg to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the motorcyclist lost control in the corner and collided with the Bakkie and was catapulted into the air and hit the Bakkie before landing on the road. The motorcyclist at the time was not wearing a helmet.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
