Paramedics hike through mud to treat patient

Torrential rain in the Bizana area had Netcare 911 paramedic’s hike four kilometers through mud to treat a seriously ill man. The paramedics arrived in Bizana at around 12h30 this afternoon to find that the roads had turned into a deep muddy mess.

Paramedics had to park the vehicle four kilometers from the scene and then hike through the mud to where they found a seriously ill man. After stabilizing him on scene they immobilized the patient on a specialized stretcher, and with the assistance of the community they carried him back to the ambulance.

Three hours later the patient was transported to the Netcare Margate hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
