Two die and four others injured in Bapsfontein head on collision

Two men have died and four others sustained serious injuries following a head on collision between two vehicles on the R50 near Bapsfontein this afternoon.

The exact cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but a Fiat Palio and a Toyota Camry had collided head on. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that both drivers had sustained various fatal injuries and both were later declared dead at the scene.

The brother of the deceased driver in the Fiat Palio was found to have sustained serious injuries in the form of a suspected head and chest injury, various scrapes and bruises, suspected back and neck injuries as well as broken bones in both legs and arms.

On scene paramedics administered Advanced Life Support treatment to the man before rapidly transporting him to a nearby medical facility. The remaining three patients sustained injuries ranging from suspected back and neck injuries to various broken bones.

All the patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to various medical facilities by various ambulance services. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
