Young man airlifted from R511

[Dainfern, GP 30 October 2012 17:50]

A 19 year old young man was knocked down on the R511 at the traffic lights outside of Dainfern Estate this evening, leaving him with a severely broken lower leg.

At this time it is not clear as to whether the young man was trying to cross the street, or whether he was simply standing at the side of the road when he was knocked down.

Paramedics were called to the scene, and upon their arrival, they found the patient with an open wound on his lower right leg and the bones were badly broken. The various services worked together to stabilized the break, administered medication to relieve his pain and check him thoroughly to determine whether he had sustained any other injuries. Fortunately, besides the grazes on his head and the broken leg, he appeared to have sustained no other injuries, so paramedics focused on keeping his pain under control and his leg stabilized while the Medicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Once the Medicopter had landed on scene, the young man was loaded and in no time he was on his way to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital where he would receive further emergency care and assessment.

There had been no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle that had collided with the man.
