Driver dies in N3 truck accident

[HOWICK, KZN, 24 November 2012, 13:00]

One man has died and another has sustained injuries after a truck veered from the N3 highway and crashed into a construction site this afternoon.

The events leading up to the collision is unclear at this stage, but a tipper truck transporting sand had allegedly veered out of control on the N3 highway before crashing through the centre median. The truck then veered into oncoming traffic before leaving the road and rolling down an embankment. The truck overturned as it came down the hill before crashing into a construction site and landing on top of two construction vehicles.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the single male driver of the truck had sustained various fatal injuries. The man, believed to have been aged in his 50’s, was later declared dead at the scene. Rescue workers extricated the mans body from the mangled truck.

One construction worker sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene for injuries including scrapes and bruises before being transported to hospital for further treatment. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
