Elderly lady injured in N2 collision

[CAPE TOWN, WC, 22 November 2012, 08:30]

An elderly lady sustained serious injuries this morning following a single vehicle collision on the N2 highway near the Liesbeek Parkway off ramp.

The cause of the collision is unclear, but the vehicle had allegedly veered out of control before colliding with the roadside barrier. The vehicle had sustained substantial damage to the front and rear end.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find that there was one occupant in the vehicle at the time of the collision. An elderly lady, aged 62, had sustained injuries to her chest. Paramedics carefully extricated the lady from behind the steering wheel and immobilised her to spinal equipment.

The patient then received Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene for chest injuries, suspected back and neck injuries as well as pain mediation. She was later transported to Groote Schuur hospital for further treatment.
