Fireman Injured In N2 Accident

Crisis Medical paramedics responded to reports of a truck accident on Sibiya Drive by the N2 south at 13:15 today.

On arrival, paramedics found that an eThekwini Metro Fire truck had overturned. The driver of the fire truck was found lying next to the vehicle. Paramedics immediately set about stabilising and fully immobilising the 34 year old man as a precautionary measure after he complained of lower leg injuries before being taken to Umhlanga Hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear what caused the truck to overturn but according to on scene reports, it is suggested the driver lost control while negotiating a bend from Sibiya Drive onto the N2. The injured man was the only occupant of the truck.

Traffic was severely affected on Sibiya Drive due to the truck lying across the roadway. Specialist heavy duty lifting equipment was required to remove the fire truck. The road was re-opened at around 15:15.

SAPS will be investigating the incident.
