Five injured in Blue Downs head on collision

Five people sustained injuries this afternoon following a head on collision between two vehicles on Hindle road in Blue Downs.

The cause of the collision is unclear at this stage, but both vehicles had sustained significant damage to the front. Paramedics who arrived at the scene found that one man was entrapped in a wrecked vehicle. Rescue personnel later used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the vehicle to free the man.

One of the patents had sustained a severely broken leg as well as suspected head, back and neck injuries. The AER24 helicopter was dispatched to the scene and the patient was later airlifted to Groote Schuur Hospital for further treatment.

Two of the remaining four patients also sustained serious injuries in the form of suspected back and neck injuries as well as various cuts and bruises. All of the patients received treatment at the scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities in ambulances from ER24 and the WCG: EMS.

Local law enforcement officials attended the collision and will be investigating the cause further.
