International adventurer tests Gabriel Safari HDP shock absorbers in harsh terrain in Morocco

Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor

When Charley Boormans heard about the performance of the locally designed and produced green Gabriel Safari HDP shock absorbers he requested a full set to test on a 4X4 excursion in Morocco. Since fitting them Charley has completed two gruelling tours in that region.

Boormans is a British actor and adventurer and has successfully been involved in adventure travel documentaries for the BBC, SKY and the National Geographic channel.

He is known for his enthusiasm for motorbikes, and has also done several documentaries of his travels, some with international actor Ewan McGregor.
He has actively supported the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) since 2004 and done visits to UNICEF projects, the majority of which have been integrated into his television programmes : Long Way Round, Long Way Down and By Any Means.

Boormans, after many kilometers of testing the shocks in the harsh North African desert, says they are doing surprisingly well.

“They have survived some difficult terrain and although smaller than the Koni Heavy Track Raids that I took off, they are excellent. The best we’ve ever used,” he says.

“I’m very pleased with them and sure they will stand up to more abuse over the next few months.”

Gabriel’s HDP (heavy-duty performance) range, as with other Gabriel shock absorbers, are designed for local South African off-road conditions and available at all major fitment centres and retail outlets.

“The Safari HDP is a robust big-bore shock absorber specifically designed for extreme South African off-road conditions and comes with a three-year unlimited kilometer warranty,” said Sean Staley, Executive Manager – Marketing, at Control Instruments-Automotive.

“The HDP is a clear indication of Gabriel’s market leadership in product design, development and expertise in local manufacture,” he said.

The HDP addresses the 4×4 enthusiast and 4×4 work-horse markets. It is specifically designed as an OEM replacement shock for vehicle fleets, agriculture, government, mining, military, construction and medium to small-size commercial vehicles for all popular makes of vehicles.

The ‘beast’ branding used for the HDP re-enforces the product’s ruggedness, power and reliability, said Mr Staley.
