Man airlifted from N12 accident

[Carletonville, NW 07 November 2012 10:30]

One man had been badly injured after his car collided head on with that of a truck on the N12 outside of Carletonville this morning. The accident happened at about 10:30 approximately 5 kilometers outside of Carletonville towards Johannesburg.

The man explained to paramedics that he was on his way to a meeting in Carletonville when the accident happened, but at this time it is still not clear as to the cause. Both the light motor vehicle and truck were extensively damaged due to the front end impact. The 39 year old driver of the Daihatsu was found trapped by his legs in his seat, and while the paramedics stabilised his injuries, the Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to cut away at the car, and a short while later they were able to remove the patient and place him into the ambulance. He was treated for multiple broken bones and while he was being treated further, AER24 had been booked to come through and collect the patient. The 39 year old was then airlifted to Milpark hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the truck, who had been the only occupant of the vehicle, luckily sustained no physical injuries.
