One Dead, Four Injured In N3 Hammersdale Accident

[HAMMERSDALE, KZN – 06 NOVEMBER 2012 AT 17H30]

One man has lost his life, two have sustained critical injuries and another two have sustained serious injuries after a vehicle left the N3 Durban about two hundred meters after the BP Oasis and went through the Armco barrier and collided head on with two other motor vehicles that were travelling on the N3 north bound this afternoon.
ER24 and EMRS arrived on the scene and found two vehicles in the right hand lane of the freeway both intertwined into one another and with extensive damage. The third vehicle was found a few meters up the road and in the emergency lane.

One patient was found underneath the back of the two vehicles but sadly he had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The remaining four patients were found in different parts of the accident scene. The two patients that were in a critical condition had suspected head and back injuries and multiple broken bones. Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed to help stabilise the patients. The other two patients were treated for suspected neck and back injuries. All for patients were transported to Hillcrest Hospital for further medical care.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and will investigate the accident further.

Traffic in the area was severely affected due to the accident.
