Pedestrian In Critical Conditon On The R617

[HOWICK, KZN -13 NOVEMBER 2012 AT 12H10]

A pedestrian believed to be in his mid-forties is in a critical condition after being knocked down by a light motor vehicle on the R617 in the direction of Underberg near to the Sakabula Estate in Howick this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle, a Nissan Almera in the emergency lane facing oncoming traffic with the pedestrian lying in the grass a few meters away in a critical condition. The patient had a suspected head injury and possible internal injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The patient was intubated and placed on a ventilator before he was transported to Grey’s Hospital for further medical care.

The local SAPS were on scene and would investigate the incident further.
