Three vehicle pileup near Potchefstroom

Two people were fortunate to have sustained minor injuries only following a serious three vehicle collision on the N12 highway, 30 kilometers outside of Potchefstroom this afternoon.

The cause of the collision is unknown, but a Mercedes Benz passenger vehicle was turning into a side road when a bakkie collided with the rear of the vehicle. The Mercedes then veered into oncoming traffic before colliding head on with a second bakkie.

Upon arriving at the scene ER24 paramedics could see that the collision was severe. Fortunately only two occupants in one of the bakkies were found to have sustained injuries. The patients received treatment at the scene for injuries ranging from scrapes and bruises to suspected back and neck injuries before being transported to medical facilities in Potchefstroom for further treatment.

Traffic on the highway was affected as multiple services attended the scene. Local law enforcement officials attended the scene of the collision and will be investigating its cause further.
