Truck accident in Elarduspark

[Elarduspark, GP 05 November 2012 15:00]

Two men travelling in a large truck suffered various injures after the truck driver appears to have lost control and the truck crashed into and almost through the highway barriers.

Paramedics and rescuers arrived on scene to find the interlinked flatbed truck split in half, having crashed through the roadside barrier. The truck is believed to have been getting onto the N1 highway to travel north from the R21 in Elarduspark when the accident occurred.

Both patients were found outside of the truck, and the cabin was extensively damaged. One man, who bystanders helped out of the mangled wreck suffered multiple broken bones and chest injuries and was taken to Pretoria East hospital by ambulance. The second patient suffered multiple cuts and bruises to his body, and after his wounds were dressed he was taken to Tshwane District hospital.

It is not clear as to what took place to cause the accident, but it is believed that the truck is the only vehicle involved in the accident and the police are still investigating.

The road remains closed for clean up operations as diesel has been spilled across the road.
