Alleged drunk driver causes crash after skipping red light

The dangers of drinking and driving were highlighted on Friday evening December 7, 2012, after a driver – allegedly driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, skipped a red light at the intersection of Malibongwe and Olivenhout in Banbury and collided head-on with another vehicle. “Fortunately, none of the people involved in the collision were seriously injured and paramedics from EMER-G-MED ambulance service rushed to the scene to stabilise the patients”, said Ashley Treurnich, spokesman for the Matrix Road Safety Association.

He urges drivers to be especially aware of alcohol use when they intend driving this festive season. ‘Hundreds of people lose their lives on the roads over the festive season every year’, he added. ‘We all need to co-operate and help lower the death-toll significantly this year’, urged Treurnich.
