Fatal accident on the N3 at Linksfield bridge

[Linksfield, GP 10 December 2012 13:00]

ER24 crews were travelling along the N3 north when they came across the accident that had just happened underneath the Linksfield bridge.

According to the team at the scene, the cement mixer had been stationary under the bridge since earlier this morning. Just before 1pm, a small Kia truck crashed into the back of the stationary vehicle.

The crew quickly began assessing the patients for their injuries, and found that the passenger was trapped inside the vehicle, while the driver had been ejected and was found lying in the road. Sadly, the passenger died on scene due to extensive injuries that he had sustained as the front of the vehicle was crushed in on top of him. The driver was in a critical condition and Advanced Life Support was required. The team quickly called for backup while they attempted to stabilise his injuries. The Advanced Life Support paramedic arrived on scene and placed the man on life support. He was treated for severe head injuries, multiple broken bones and internal injuries. A medical helicopter was then called to the scene to ensure that the man received rapid further medical care at a medical facility.

There was no one else injured in the collision.
