Pedestrian Airlifted From The R23 With Critical Injuries

A woman believed to be in her early thirties is in a critical condition after being knocked down by a light motor vehicle on the R23 (High Road) near to the R21 on ramp this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Johannesburg East arrived on the scene and found the woman lying just off to the side of the road with the car just a few meters away in front with extensive damage to the bonnet and windscreen on the car. Paramedics assessed the patient and found she had a suspected head, chest and suspected internal injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient before she was airlifted to hospital by AER24 Medicopter for rapid medical care. The driver of the car was unharmed in the incident.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident further. The road was closed while the medicopter landed on the scene.
