Incident time: 19:00

One person sustained critical injuries while another two suffered moderate injuries after two vehicles collided with one another at the corners of Potgieter and Pretorius street in Pretoria CBD last night.

The driver of a Red VW Polo suffered moderate injuries after the vehicle crashed into the side of a Grey Toyota Corolla. In the Corolla had been two occupants, where the driver was left with critical injuries and the passenger fortunately only moderate injuries.

The cause of the incident remains unknown until the necessary investigations have been conducted by local authorities, but the impact of the Polo into the side of the Corolla was severe enough to leave the driver entrapped in his seat. He was found to have sustained critical injuries and paramedics treated him inside the vehicle while the Jaws of Life were being used to cut him free of the wreckage. Almost an hour later, paramedics and rescuers were able to free the patient and he was removed into the waiting ambulance.

The patient remains on life support in a critical condition in hospital after sustaining what was a suspected head injury as a result of the collision.
