Standard Bank gives personal current account holders free cover for a stress-free summer

Standard Bank will not only be driving their customers banking needs this festive season, they will also be driving them home. As the end-of-year festivities kick off, Standard Bank is offering all personal current account customers access to a concierge service through Europ Assist, to drive them home safely should they overindulge.

From December 2012 to the end of February 2013, Standard Bank’s Summer Cover offer will provide personal current account customers with free access to the concierge service, as well as Roadside Assist to help with vehicle problems, Home Assist for emergencies at their place of residence, and death or disability cover up to R5000. The cover is free to all Achiever Electronic, Elite Banking, Prestige Banking, Private Banking, Consolidator and Private Client customers. New customers opening these accounts will automatically qualify for this benefit.

Sugendhree Reddy, Standard Bank Head of Personal Markets says: “For many of our customers it has been a very challenging year. The festive season is really a time to reflect, relax and enjoy. Standard Bank has introduced Summer Cover during this period to ensure that our customers have even less to worry about and can enjoy the season with their families and loved ones.

“From December to the end of February 2013, Standard Bank will assist you and your family in getting home safely if you have had too much to drink. If your car breaks down, we give you access to roadside assistance. If you need emergency repairs to your home, we will get you the assistance required. And in the unlikely event of a death or disability, cover will be provided.”

The Take Me Home service is available within a 30 km radius of city centres in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, George, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, and Polokwane. When an account holder calls the toll free number, two drivers are dispatched. One will drive the account holder home in his or her own car, and up to four additional passengers can be transported. Two incidents are covered for the period ending 28 February 2013.

Home Assist is a 24-hour help line, offering assistance with emergency household repairs that need to be carried out within 2 hours of the call for assistance, and that could result in consequential damages. It also applies to customers who have no access to essential services such as electricity, hot water, or sanitary use. Service providers are dispatched if the services of an electrician, plumber or locksmith are required. Three incidents for the period are covered, up to a maximum amount of R500 per incident. The cost includes a call out fee and the first hour of labour but excludes costs related to parts.

Roadside Assist will cover a mechanical breakdown of the account holder’s vehicle, a flat tyre, a flat battery or any other roadside related emergency. Europ Assistance SA can be contacted 24 hours a day to arrange assistance anywhere within the borders of South Africa.

Ms Reddy says: “Summer Cover is an expression of our gratitude to the millions of our loyal customers. Standard Bank will not charge anything for this cover, there are no hidden clauses, and there’s no sign-up process. If you’re a Standard Bank personal current account holder, our gift to you is automatic access to Summer Cover.”
