Thirteen injured in R501 collision

A taxi and an Audi traveling on the R501 collided head on about 15 kilometers from Potchefstroom at around 11pm last night leaving thirteen people with various injuries.

Due to the substantial damage to the front ends of both vehicles, the Tlokwe Fire Department needed to use the Jaws of Life to remove both of the drivers from the wreckages. A man and his brother had been traveling in the Audi in the direction of Carletonville, where the driver had sustained severe injuries and his brother only minor injuries. Fortunately both men were in a stable condition and taken to hospital by ambulance.

In the taxi, which was traveling in the direction of Potchefstroom, was 11 commuters. All of the passengers sustained only minor to moderate injuries, even the driver who despite being mechanically trapped in the wreckage was treated for only moderate injuries. All 11 patients were taken to hospitals in the area for further care.
