28 year old dies in N4 accident

[Pretoria, GP 14 January 2013]

Incident time: 17:00

An accident on the N4 yesterday afternoon has claimed the life of a 28 year old man.

Paramedics and rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident to find that a small truck had left the N4 and had crashed into the concrete pillar of the bridge. It is not yet known what the cause of this collision was, paramedics could only suspect that the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, had suddenly lost control for some reason when the vehicle then left the road.

The front of the truck was crushed into the pillar of the bridge of Rosslyn (R556) road overhead. The driver was mechanically trapped in the vehicle, and the space in which he remained left his body and legs trapped by the crushed metal.

Paramedics attempted to stabilise him inside the vehicle, while rescuers used the Jaws of Life to cut him free. Despite all efforts by the teams who were on scene, the man did not survive his injuries and he died still trapped in the wreckage. He had succumbed to the massive traumatic injury that he had sustained and there was nothing more that could be done to save his life.

There is believed to have been no other vehicle that payed a part in the cause of this accident and the local police are conducting all necessary investigations.
