Another pedestrian knocked down and dragged by a taxi

[Potchefstroom, NW 30 January 2013]

Another pedestrian has been knocked down and allegedly dragged underneath a taxi, this time on Schoemansdrift road just outside of Potchefstroom.

After the eight year old little school girl was critically injured and airlifted from a similar scene this morning, paramedics deal with a 19 year old young man having sustained injury by being knocked down and dragged underneath a taxi.

According to witnesses at the scene of the incident, the man was actually walking at the side of the road, and it is not clear as to whether he suddenly moved into the road or whether the taxi ha left the road. The front end of the taxi was dented and the windshield smashed, the impact had forced the body of the young man underneath the taxi and it then apparently dragged him along for five to ten meters before coming to a standstill.

Paramedics treated him for multiple injuries and he was transported in a severe but stable condition to the Potchefstroom Provincial hospital for further care.

No one in the taxi was injured.
