DURBAN (Pinetown) 11 January 2013 16:30

A horrific accident on the M7 near Pinetown claimed the life of a young man (27)and left another with serious injuries.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene found it strange when they were told by bystanders that one of the vehicles lying in the road was thrown into the road’s surface by an oncoming vehicle. It is understood that two bakkies were traveling in the opposite direction on the M7 when one of the vehicles apparently lost control and crashed through the middle island. The driver of the vehicle that crashed through the island was flung out of the vehicle. Bystanders explained that the man’s vehicle travelled through the air and landed on top of another bakkie traveling in the opposite direction.

Paramedics that arrived on the scene found the man that was flung out of his vehicle approximately 50 meters away from the scene. He sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him. An elderly man, believed to be in his 60’s) was still trapped in his vehicle. Paramedics extricated the man from his vehicle and rushed him to a nearby hospital for further medical management.

The exact cause for this fatal collision will be investigated.
