Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to an accident scene on the R28 between Randfontein and Krugersdorp this afternoon.
Upon their arrival they found that a heavy goods vehicle and a motor vehicle were involved in the accident. Exact details of the cause of the accident is unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
However, reports from the scene indicate that the motor vehicle had a tyre blow-out causing the driving to veer into the way of a heavy goods vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The heavy goods vehicle overturned after it swerved to avoid the motor vehicle.
Both drivers of the vehicles sustained serious injuries and were transporting to nearby medical facilities after they were treated and stabilised on scene.
