A twenty-two-year-old female cyclist is in a critical condition after a vehicle smashed into her along East central arterial Road Richards bay this afternoon. Reports indicate that the female was riding with a group at around 18h15 when a vehicle came hurling around the road; he slammed into the cyclist, rode over her bicycle and then collided into a lamp pole.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the female had been thrown several meters from her cycle leaving her in a critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was taken by the S A P for questioning while his passenger sustained serious injuries.

Paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the patients before they transported the critically injured female to the Netcare Bay hospital for the care that she required. The other patient was transported to a local provincial hospital for further treatment.
