Truck and Golf collide leaving one critically injured

Incident time: 23:30

One person has been left with extensive and critical injuries after a truck and VW Golf collided on Contermanskloof road late yesterday evening.

Paramedics and rescuers arrived on scene to find that a heavy duty load bed truck had collided into the driver’s side of a VW Citi Golf which left the Golf crumpled and entangled into the front of the truck. One patient was found inside the Golf, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle who is a 28 year old young man. The patient had suffered critical injuries and paramedics worked hard to stabilise his condition while rescuers used the Jaws of Life to cut the vehicle open.

Another heavy duty truck was then brought in, and a crane was used to life the front of the truck off the car. More than an hour later the patient was freed and paramedics transported him through to the Groote Schuur Hospital for further care.

It is still not clear as to what caused this accident or as to who was at fault, but local police are investigating.
