Vehicle rolls – 9 injured

[Cape Town International, WC 24 January 2013]

Incident time: 12:00

Just before 12 this morning, nine people were injured when the vehicle that they were travelling in, overturned and rolled numerous times on the N2 just before the Borcherds Quarry off ramp in the vicinity of the Cape Town International airport in Cape Town.

The vehicle came to land back on its wheels just at the side of the road, but a woman had been ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and she was found trapped underneath. Bystanders moved the vehicle from off of her, but she had been badly injured.

The driver had also been ejected and he had sustained extensive injury but was in a stable condition. Of the non occupants inside the Toyota Avanza, the woman who was found underneath the vehicle was in the most serious condition, while the remaining eight people had suffered moderate to minor injuries. The woman was treated for multiple broken bones and transported to Life Vincent Palotti hospital, two other patients were transported to Tygerberg hospital and the remaining six patients to GF Jooste hospital.

There is believed to have been no other vehicles involved in the cause of the accident, but the local police are investigating.
