Woman In Critical Condition After Crash On The M13

[SHONGWENI, KZN – 29 JANUARY 2013]

Incident Time: 15h30

A woman is in a critical condition and her child has sustained minor injuries after losing control of her car on the M13 Durban bound just past Shongweni off ramp and went through the centre medium and rolled numerous times before coming to a halt on the M13 Shongweni bound this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the driver and the child still in the car. Paramedics assessed the patients and found the driver who was still behind the steering wheel was in a critical condition. The patient had sustained a head injury and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The patient was placed on a ventilator to help her breath before she was transported to Hillcrest Private Hospital for rapid medical care. The child was also treated on scene for minor injuries and taken with her mother to the hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control of her car but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further. Traffic was severely affected in the area due to the incident.
