Incident time: 14:30

An elderly couple have been injured following a collision between their light motor vehicle and a minibus this afternoon in Meyerton.

The collision occurred on the Henly on Klip bridge over the R59, which left the light motor vehicle extensively damaged and crushed. The driver, a man in his 70’s, was trapped in his seat and the Jaws of Life needed to be used to remove him from the wreckage. As paramedics were stabilising him on scene for the injuries that he had sustained, which included a possible pelvic fracture, broken leg and head injury, he was cut from the vehicle. They called in the assistance of AER24 which after landing on scene was airborne again shortly en route to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital.

The woman, also in her 70’s, was sitting in the front passenger seat when the impact occurred. She suffered a broken leg and arm and she was taken to Sebokeng hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

The three male occupants of the minibus suffered slight injuries only and they were taken to a nearby clinic by ambalance for further assessment.
