Sadly, a man and a woman have been killed as a result of a head on collision that took place on the N8 between Kimberley and Petrusburg this afternoon.
The two vehicles were travelling in posits directions, the woman in the Hyundai hatchback towards Kimberley, and the man in the Nissan sedan towards Bloemfontein. It is not yet clear as to the actions of either driver leading to the collision taking place, but it happened just at the section where extensive road works are taking place and a single lane in each direction is open.
Paramedics initially received the call that both patients were badly injured but upon their arrival on scene, it was clear that neither of the single occupant of each vehicle had survived. The impact had left both of them trapped in their seats and nothing more could be done to save their lives. Both patients, both suspected to be around the age of 30, were declared deceased. The Fire and Rescue team would need to use the Jaws of Life to remove their remains from the vehicles.
Local police are still investigating the cause of this fatal crash.
