Intercape Expanding to Northern Namibia

Planning a trip to Northern Namibia? Forget the airport – Intercape has a very appealing alternative.

Southern Africa’s largest privately owned intercity coach operator is proud to announce the introduction of a new route in Namibia. The new route will operate between Windhoek and the Northern regions, including stops in Ondangwa, Oshakati, and Oshikango. Starting on the 25th of March, the service will initially run three times per week, with early evening departures from Windhoek on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and from the North on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Intercape operates existing routes from Windhoek to Walvis Bay, Cape Town, Upington and Johannesburg, as well as Livingstone and Vic Falls via Katima Mulilo.  This new route not only provides convenient connections to all these destinations, it also gives access to Intercape’s entire route network covering all major routes in Namibia, South Africa, Southern Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.

“There is strong demand for a safe, dependable and affordable service between Windhoek and Northern Namibia,” says Nezar Uys, Intercape Namibia manager. “We believe we have the right combination of product and service to meet this demand.  Our coaches are the best available internationally, and our 25-year history and track record of safety and service speaks for itself.”

A comprehensive survey conducted by Intercape revealed that almost 60% of its passengers chose Intercape for its safety record.  “Safety is our first priority,” says Uys.

Intercape’s coaches are equipped with state-of-the-art safety features, such as drive cam, 24 hour satellite tracking, an advanced fire protection system, and individual seat belts. Intercape also follows a comprehensive safety procedure, whereby all coaches are thoroughly checked prior to every trip.  Each coach has two professional drivers, and driver shifts are strictly enforced using an electronic tagging system.  Driver behaviour is monitored in real time, ensuring the safe operation of the coach under all circumstances.

Intercape was also the first to introduce its own speed limit of 95 km/h throughout its route network.  The speed limit is rigorously monitored and enforced, and is considered to be one of the main contributing factors to the company’s excellent safety record through the years.

Intercape is not only safe, it also offers superior comfort.  All coaches have air conditioning, luxury reclining seats, ample leg room, on-board entertainment and movies, and a clean toilet.  You can also expect a friendly cabin attendant and refreshments on sale. The spacious luggage compartments and trailer will accommodate large volumes of luggage.

According to Dr. Danie du Toit, Chief Commercial Officer, the departures will be increased to a daily service later this year. “We are very excited about this development. It brings our service to a very populous and important part of Namibia.”

The service will commence on 25 March. Tickets can be booked in advance at Intercape’s office in Bahnhof street Windhoek, at any Shoprite/Checkers, online at www.intercape.co.za, or by calling 061 227 847.  An opening discount of N$50 will apply to all sales for a limited time.
