One Dead, thirty people injured in early morning N1 accident

It was a bad start to motorists this morning who were driving along the N1 near 14th Avenue in Roodepoort after a truck carrying bricks crashed into multiple vehicles and leaving one person dead and close to thirty people injured with various injuries.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found what looked like absolute chaos due to motor vehicles where all over the place. One vehicle was on its roof on the on coming lane and another vehicle was wedged between the concrete barrier and the truck.

Emergency personnel were told by various members of public that five people had died and multiple people were injured. Paramedics fearing the worse started to assess the patients and found that one person had died and that over twenty five people had sustained minor to serious injuries.

One lady who was in the motor vehicle that was wedged between the barrier and the truck had to be extricated by means of the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment. Patients were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

The circumstances around the accident would be investigated by the local authorities. The road was closed due for the accident but its believed that some of the lanes have reopened by the authorities.
