One man died while another escaped with minor injuries after a heavy goods truck and a bakkie collided on the R 603 near the Tala Game reserve in Kwa-Zulu Natal this afternoon. Reports from the scene indicate that the truck collided into the passenger side of the bakkie before dragging it several meters down the roadway.
Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the bakkie wedged under the front part of the truck with the driver still trapped in the mangled wreckage. Tragically the man in his thirties died before our arrival at the scene, another male sustained minor injuries, he was treated on scene but refused hospitalization.
