Control Instruments-Automotive Acquires Textar Range of brake friction products

The Control Instruments-Automotive Textar team

JSE-listed Control Instruments subsidiary CI-Automotive has been appointed the sole authorised Sub-Saharan Africa distributor for Textar (light commercial vehicles) LCV and (medium commercial – sprinters) MCV friction products, the brake friction product manufactured by TMD Friction.

TMD Friction is a global brand with headquarters in Germany and the world’s largest manufacturer of brake friction products.

The group produces one million brake friction products daily across 13 production sites in eight countries. Textar this year celebrates its 100th birthday.

Brendon Waller, product manager – Brake, said that over 1 000 part numbers will be launched in conjunction with the online catalogue www.brakebook.com. The Textar products have a 60 000km warranty. The website provides a graphical representation of each product, technical specifications and the manufacturer’s cross-reference table.

National fitment centre group SupaQuick has announced preferred brand status for Textar while AutoZone, the country’s largest privately owned automotive spares retailer, has been appointed a national Textar retailer.

Richard Berner, divisional head – Brake said that Textar is manufactured in line with stringent environmental requirements.  Textar’s long-term aim is to reduce energy consumption by up to 50%.

He said that TMD is at the forefront of environmental protection. Almost a decade ago the company was instrumental developing the ECO-Table, a set of ecological and environmental classification standards for friction materials. This ranges from ECO I to ECO IV and today is a universally recognised standard.

“Lean management is another fundamental principle in all the group’s processes. By optimising these processes, the company has improved production and delivery times while enhancing product quality. Optimum process control also helps prevent waste in overproduction,” he said.
