Participate in The 031 Long Short Walk for Pedestrian Safety

The call for a “Decade of Action for Road Safety” is also the theme around the Annual World Day of Remembrance. As we are already starting with preparations for the Durban World Day of Remembrance event for 2013 which you guys supported so well last year, we thought you would like to join us for The Long Short Walk, another great campaign to help promote Pedestrian Safety.

Around a quarter of the 1.3 million people killed on the world’s roads are pedestrians. Many are children.

Too many pedestrians are being killed and injured on the world’s roads. Yet implementing safety measures are cost effective and the solutions are simple. Often what’s needed is as simple as a safe crossing point or a pavement.

The Long Short Walk is part of the Zenani Campaign and is in support of UN Global Road Safety week on 6-12 May 2013, themed around pedestrian safety.

With the help of our friends at SADD (South African Against Drunk Driving) we are arranging a Durban walk and we want YOU to take this walk with us down Florida Road to raise awareness about pedestrian safety. We will put together photo and video footage and send them on to be combined with other countries footage – to create a snapshot of streets and journeys promoting pedestrian safety all across the world.

During the walk you can take your own images and videos and upload them to Facebook, Instagram, Flickr or Twitter and use the hashtag or Twitter and use the hashtag #walksafe

Let’s make a change! We will provide signboards and banners for you to write on.

We will be meeting at Mitchell Park across from Vida E on Saturday the 11th of May from 11h00 and our walk will start at 12h00. We will end down at the Durban Tourism Offices on Florida Rd.

Please come and show your support & love to all those lives lost on the roads, and let’s work together as a community to create change and raise awareness for safety on our roads.
