Passenger bus collides into car at De Hoek Toll Plaza

N3, De Hoek Toll Plaza, Gauteng

Incident time: 14:00

Paramedics have just completed on the scene of a serious collision which took place on the N3 north just before the De Hoek Toll Plaza. A fully laden passenger bus collided into the back of a light motor vehicle, leaving the 15 year old boy who was sitting in the back seat with critical injuries. The teenager was trapped in the vehicle and the Jaws of Life needed to be used to remove him. Paramedics stabilised him inside the vehicle and he was then transported under Advanced Life Support care to the Union Hospital in Alberton.

The young man’s parents were suiting in the front seats of the car and they fortunately survived the collision with minor injuries only. Paramedics transported the man and wife to Union Hospital for further care.

It was stated on scene that the bus seemed to have lost breaking ability when it collided with the car in front of it just near the Toll Plaza. The boy was part of a tour of boys who were in the passenger bus at the time.

Fortunately no one else in the bus or at the Toll Plaza was injured.
