2 People injured in Athlone bridge collision

Crisis Medical Paramedics responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on the Athlone Bridge, by the Riverside Hotel at 11:30 today.

First on arrival, paramedics assessed the occupants of the vehicle and found that two people had sustained injuries. Both patients were treated on scene before being taken to Ethekwini Hospital by Crisis Medical ambulance and a local hospital by Rescue Care ambulance for further medical treatment.

From on scene reports, it is believed that the driver of the vehicle took evasive action to avoid an oncoming vehicle before losing control and colliding with the side barrier.

SAPS members were on scene to determine the cause. Traffic was severely disrupted on the south bound side of Riverside Road to NMR which emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
