Just after 8am this morning Rescue Care paramedics responded to a serious collision at the corner of Hillier Road and Umbilo Road.
On arrival paramedics found that a bus had collided with a vehicle in the junction. A quick assessment revealed that there had been two occupants in the vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle a elderly lady had unfortunately suffered fatal injuries and had unfortunately passed away before paramedics arrival. The driver of the vehicle had sustained serious injuries and Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilize him in the vehicle before carefully extricating him from the wreckage. Once the patient was extricated he was transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required.
It is unclear what caused the collision however the robots were not working at the intersection at the time of the collision. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
