Pietermaritzburg truck accident leaves two seriously injured

Two men are seriously injured after two trucks collided head-on at the intersection of Ohrtman and New Greytown Roads, Northdale, Pietermaritzburg this afternoon. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene to find two people trapped in the crumpled remains of one of the trucks, the occupant of the other truck miraculously escaped uninjured.

While firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the men, medics had to clamber into the wreckage to stabilize the patients. After the injured were skillfully immobilized and extricated, medics transported them to a Netcare hospital in Pietermaritzburg for the care that they required.
