Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision on Main Road and Fairlight Road Malvern just before 8am this morning.
On arrival paramedics found that a bus and a vehicle had collided in the junction. A quick assessment revealed that one person from the vehicle had been seriously injured and was entrapped in the wreckage. Fire fighters had to use hydraulic equipment to free the injured driver before carefully removing the injured man. Once freed the patient was placed on specialized equipment before being loaded into an awaiting ambulance. Thirteen bus passengers had also sustained various injuries and were all stabilized on the scene before being transported by various ambulances to various hospitals around Durban for the further care that they required.
It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS will be investigating further.
Main Road was closed whilst emergency officials worked to clear the roadway.
