Head On Collision On The R617 Has One Person Airlifted

A head on collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle on the R617 has left one person with critical injuries and seventeen others with various injuries this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles in the road with extensive damage to both. The critically injured patient was entrapped in the car and had suffered multiple broken bones and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient while the Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment to extricate the patient from the wreckage.

While the patient was being extricated the AER24 KZN was called to the scene to airlift the patient to Edendale Hospital for further medical care.

The remaining patients were treated for minor cuts and abrasions to suspected neck and back injuries. They were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigated the accident further.
