Woman Airlifted From The R103 After Accident

A driver and passenger are in a serious condition after losing control of the car on the R103 and veered off the road and landed upside down on the rocks in the Umgeni River near Midmar Dam this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics and SAPS Search and Rescue arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle upside down on the rocks. The driver was found a few meters away believed to have been ejected in the accident. The passenger was entrapped inside the vehicle.

The driver was hoisted by rescue systems that the SAPS set up on scene. The patient had a suspected neck and back injury and needed Advanced Life Support intervention due to the injuries.

The passenger who was entrapped need to be extricated by means of the Jaws of Life. The patient had sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted by the AER24 Medicopter to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for rapid medical care.

The circumstances around the accident would be investigated by the local authorities.
