A woman believed to be in her mid to late 20’s has been killed after being knocked down by a car while she was allegedly trying to cross the road.

The collision between the car and pedestrian took place this afternoon at the corners of Main and Brown in Newlands, where the VW Citi Golf was driving in the direction of Roodepoort. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene, but despite their prompt arrival, the woman had already succumbed to the extensive injuries that she had sustained and she had died on scene. She was found lying in the road and there was no more that could be done to save her life and she was pronounced dead.

The single occupant of the Citi Golf was not physically injured in the incident.

Police are still currently on the scene for investigation purposes.
