Driver loses control and crashes into wall of house on New Port road in Pietermaritzburg

A 38 year old man has been left with extensive injuries after the vehicle that he was travelling in collided into the wall of a house in Imbali in the early hours of this morning.

It was around 5am that paramedics were called to assist with a man that had been critically injured in the collision. When they arrived on scene they found that the driver had allegedly absconded from the scene and the injuries that he may have sustained are unknown. His passenger, the 38 year old, was trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle and his injuries were severe. He had badly broken his leg, sustained possible chest injuries and multiple other injuries as a result of the impact.

While paramedics were providing emergency medical care to the patient, the Jaws of Life were used to remove him from the wreckage. He was further cared for in the ambulance en route to Edendale hospital.

Police are still investigating the events which took place leading up to this crash.
