Early morning Taxi accident leaves 11 injured, 3 serious.

Just before 06:30am Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious accident Richmond Road near Trafford Road.

On arrival paramedics found that a bakkie and a taxi had collided and both veered from the roadway down an embankment. Some of the occupants from the taxi were ejected after the collision. Paramedics found that the driver of the bakkie was entrapped in the wreckage. Fire fighters used the jaws of life to free the seriously injured man. In total eleven people sustained various injuries and were transported by various ambulances to various hospitals. The bakkie driver had sustained serious injuries and was flown with the ER24 medical helicopter to St Augustine’s Hospital for the further care that he required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as multiple emergency vehicles were needed to clear the scene.
